Chandi Path (Durga Saptashati Path)
Chandi Path, also known as Durga Saptashati Path or Devi Mahatmyam, is a sacred recitation dedicated to Goddess Durga. It consists of 700 verses (Saptashati) from the Markandeya Purana, glorifying the divine victories of the Goddess over powerful demons and celebrating Her supreme power. This powerful path is performed to seek divine protection, courage, prosperity, victory over obstacles, and spiritual upliftment. It is especially auspicious during Navratri, Durga Puja, Ashtami, and other sacred occasions.
Chandi Path, also known as Durga Saptashati or Devi Mahatmyam, is one of the most revered scriptures dedicated to Goddess Durga. Comprising 13 chapters and 700 verses, it describes the divine manifestations of the Goddess and Her victories over demons such as Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura, Shumbha, and Nishumbha, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness over evil.
The recitation begins with traditional preliminary prayers such as Devi Kavach, Argala Stotra, and Keelak Stotra, followed by the chanting of the 13 chapters of the Durga Saptashati. In many traditions, the Path is accompanied by Durga Puja, Navarna Mantra Japa ("Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Viche"), and concludes with a Havan (Yajna), Aarti, and distribution of Prasad.
Chandi Path is performed to invoke the divine grace of Goddess Durga for protection, removal of obstacles, victory over adversities, prosperity, good health, and spiritual growth. It is widely organized during Navratri, special family ceremonies, business inaugurations, and other auspicious events to create an atmosphere of divine energy, peace, and positivity.
