Katyayani Puja
The Katyayani Puja is a highly powerful Vedic ritual dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, the sixth manifestation of Navadurga (the nine forms of Goddess Durga). This puja is traditionally performed to remove obstacles related to marriage, resolve delayed marital prospects, eliminate Manglik Dosha, and help individuals find a compatible and loving life partner.
Goddess Katyayani was born out of the combined cosmic anger and radiant energies of the gods to destroy the demon Mahishasura. Named after Sage Katyayan, who first worshiped her, she represents fierce devotion, righteousness, and divine grace. As beautifully illustrated in the image, she is traditionally depicted with a golden complexion, seated majestically upon a fierce lion, holding a sacred lotus flower and a sword (Kharga) in her hands, while her other hands are in gestures of protection (Abhaya Mudra) and blessings.
The historical significance of this puja dates back to the Bhagavata Purana, which mentions that the young gopis of Vrindavan performed Katyayani Vrata to win Lord Krishna as their husband. Since antiquity, this ritual has been regarded as the ultimate astrological and spiritual remedy for young men and women facing chronic delays, family opposition, or malefic planetary afflictions in their marital journey.

Altar Setup: A clean wooden platform is prepared where an idol or picture of Goddess Katyayani riding her lion is placed. A traditional clay or copper Kalash filled with water, mango leaves, and a coconut is installed beside her.
Sankalpa (Sacred Vow): The devotee holds fresh water, flowers, and unbroken rice grains (Akshat) in their palm, clearly reciting their birth specifications (Gotra, Nakshatra) and stating their heart's intent to resolve marriage issues or find a partner.
Shodashopachara Worship: The Goddess is honored with 16 traditional offerings. Because she represents marital bliss, she is offered red and yellow flowers, honey, vermilion (Kumkum), and a Shringar kit (traditional bridal offerings like red bangles, henna, and bindi).
Mantra Japa: The priest or devotee chants her highly potent invocation mantra, such as the Katyayani Maha Mantra:
"Katyayani Mahamaye Mahayoginyadheeshwari | Nandgopsutam Devam Pati Me Kurute Namah ||"
Havan & Aarti: A holy fire sacrifice (Havan) is performed where specific herbs, ghee, and sweet offerings are given to the sacred fire while reciting Vedic verses. The ceremony concludes with a devotional Aarti and the distribution of sweets and honey as Prasad.
